Betterflag

Betterflag vs PostHog

Flags as the product, not a side feature.

PostHog is a great analytics suite, and flags are one of its many products, billed per request after the free 1M. Betterflag does one thing: feature flags, priced on one meter, with an MCP server built specifically for flag work.

Why teams switch

Per-request billing adds up

Flag checks happen on every page load and every API call. At real traffic, per-request pricing turns a utility into a meaningful line item. Betterflag tiers are flat with cheap, published overage.

An MCP that speaks flags natively

Betterflag MCP has full parity with the flag API: targeting rules, staged rollouts, kill switches, guardrails that require human approval for production changes. It is the primary interface, not an add-on.

Edge evaluation by default

Flags are evaluated at the edge closest to your user, under 100ms anywhere. No SDK polling loops to tune, no evaluation servers to think about.

The math, side by side

A production app doing 5M flag requests a month, a normal volume once flags guard your main user flows.

PostHog feature flags

  • First 1M requests: free
  • 1M to 2M x $0.0001 = $100
  • 2M to 5M x $0.000045 = $135

~$235/mo

Betterflag Launch

  • 5M evaluations included in the tier

$24.99/mo

PostHog published rates as of July 2026. PostHog's local evaluation can reduce billable requests, at the cost of polling configuration and payload size. Betterflag numbers are list price.

The honest take

When PostHog is the better pick

If you already pay for PostHog analytics, stay under 1M flag requests, and want everything in one tool, PostHog flags are effectively free and perfectly fine. That is a real advantage of a suite.

When Betterflag is the better pick

If flags guard your core product flows and volume is growing, or you want agents to manage flags safely, a dedicated tool with flat pricing and a purpose-built MCP will cost less and do more. Keep PostHog for analytics; move the flags.

Common questions

Can I use Betterflag alongside PostHog?

Yes, and that is the common setup: PostHog for analytics and replays, Betterflag for flags. Send flag exposure events to PostHog if you want them in your funnels.

Does Betterflag do experiments like PostHog?

Not today. Betterflag is flags-only by design: targeting, percentage rollouts, scheduled rollouts, kill switches. If you need a full experimentation suite, PostHog or Statsig is the better pick for that job.

What happens if I go over my included evaluations?

Published overage, no surprises: $5 per extra 1M on Starter, $4 on Launch, $3 on Scale.
