The Best LaunchDarkly Alternatives in 2026
Honest LaunchDarkly alternatives for 2026: PostHog, Statsig, GrowthBook, Flagsmith, Unleash, ConfigCat, and Betterflag, organized by why you're leaving, not by feature checklists.
Full disclosure up front: I am building Betterflag, one of the tools in this list. I would rather tell you that in the first sentence than have you discover it in the last one. What I can offer in exchange is a comparison organized the way people actually shop, by why you are leaving, instead of a 40-row feature matrix where every column mysteriously favors the author.
Numbers below are as of mid-2026. Pricing pages change. Check before you commit. Side-by-sides: /vs. Bill math: /calculator.
First, why are you leaving?
Every LaunchDarkly migration I have talked to falls into one of three buckets:
- The bill. Service connections plus client-side MAUs compound into real money. A 100k-MAU app is $833 to $1,000/mo in MAU charges alone. You want flags, not a procurement project. (Seats are unlimited on current LaunchDarkly tiers. That is not the meter.)
- The weight. You use 10% of the platform and pay for 100% of it.
- The workflow. Your team ships through coding agents and CI, and a dashboard designed for humans clicking buttons is friction.
Different buckets point to different tools.
If flags are a side dish: PostHog
PostHog bundles flags with product analytics, session replay, and experiments. If you already pay for PostHog analytics, its flags are effectively free at low volume and the integration with analytics is genuinely useful.
The trade: flags are a side feature of a very large suite. Flag evaluations bill per request after the free tier. If you only want flags you are adopting a whole platform to get a boolean. Great if you are bucket 2 leaving toward consolidation. Wrong if you wanted something lighter. Betterflag vs PostHog.
If you are experimentation-first: Statsig
Statsig is what you pick when A/B testing is the job and flags are the delivery mechanism. Its stats engine is excellent and its free tier is generous. Center of gravity is experimentation. If you mostly want safe rollouts and kill switches, you are buying a physics lab to hang a picture frame. Betterflag vs Statsig.
If you want open source with stats: GrowthBook
GrowthBook is open source, self-hostable, and pairs flags with a solid experimentation layer that reads from your own data warehouse. Cloud Pro is seat-priced at $40/seat/mo. Self-hosted is free if you have the ops appetite. Betterflag vs GrowthBook.
If you want open source, flags-only: Unleash and Flagsmith
Unleash and Flagsmith are the two serious open-source, flags-first options. Both self-host well. Both have managed clouds (Unleash prices by seats; Flagsmith by seats and requests). If the requirement is "flags on my own infra," these are the shortlist. You own the uptime, the upgrades, and the edge latency story. Betterflag vs Flagsmith.
If you want cheap and simple: ConfigCat
ConfigCat is the pragmatic pick: straightforward config-and-flag service, flat pricing, no drama. It does not try to be an experimentation platform or an agent platform. For a solo dev or small team with modest needs, it is honestly hard to argue against.
If your agents ship the code: Betterflag
This is the bucket I am building Betterflag for, so calibrate accordingly.
Betterflag is flags-only and agent-first: the MCP server and REST API are the primary interface, so Claude Code or Cursor can create a flag, stage a 10% rollout, and pull a kill switch without a human opening the dashboard. Agent-scoped keys, an agent-attributed audit trail, approval guardrails for the scary actions. Pricing is one meter (evaluations): $9.99/mo Starter with unlimited flags, seats, and environments. No MAU billing. Flags are served from the edge in under 100ms.
What Betterflag is not: an experimentation suite (pick Statsig or GrowthBook), not self-hostable today, and not free (no permanent free tier). Alpha waitlist members lock in 50% off for life.
How the write path works in practice: feature flags over MCP and shipping from Claude Code.
The short version
| You want | Look at | |---|---| | Flags bundled with analytics | PostHog | | Serious A/B testing | Statsig, GrowthBook | | Open source / self-hosted | Unleash, Flagsmith, GrowthBook | | Cheapest simple flags | ConfigCat | | Agent-native, one-meter pricing | Betterflag | | Enterprise governance at enterprise budget | LaunchDarkly, honestly |
That last row is not a joke. If you are 500 engineers with compliance requirements and a platform team, LaunchDarkly is a defensible choice. You are the customer it is priced for. The rest of us were subsidizing that, and in 2026 there is no reason to keep doing it.

FAQ
- What is the best LaunchDarkly alternative in 2026?
- It depends why you are leaving. If flags are a side dish next to analytics, PostHog. If you need a serious stats engine, Statsig or GrowthBook. If you must self-host, Unleash, Flagsmith, or GrowthBook. If you want cheap and simple, ConfigCat. If you want flags-only, one-meter pricing, and an MCP server for coding agents, Betterflag.
- Is there a cheaper alternative to LaunchDarkly?
- Yes, for most teams under 50 people. LaunchDarkly bills service connections plus client-side MAUs, so a 100k-MAU app is hundreds to a thousand dollars a month before add-ons. Evaluation-priced or suite-bundled flags cost much less at that shape. Run the flag bill calculator with your numbers.
- Does Betterflag replace LaunchDarkly experiments?
- No. Betterflag is flags-only: targeting, percentage rollouts, kill switches, audit log. For rigorous A/B tests, stay on LaunchDarkly, Statsig, or GrowthBook, or keep an experimentation tool next to Betterflag flags.
- Can I migrate off LaunchDarkly without a six-month project?
- Flag keys, targeting, and environments map cleanly. Export via their API and recreate via the Betterflag API or MCP. A coding agent can do most of the mechanical copy in one session. Experiments, holdouts, and custom metric pipelines do not map, because Betterflag does not have them.
